TIME and the Geologist
by Fred Witschard

ISBN 978 1 904177 241

The author Fred Witschard is Swiss, PhD in geology and has worked many years in West Africa. He was there in 1959 and 1960, during the independence of former French colonies Senegal, Mali and Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso).
These exciting and turbulent timers are described with some satirical undertones. The annual visit of the beloved poet and first President of Senegal, Leopold Sedar Senghor, is narrated.
Other anecdotes depict the common village life, gold exploration and some breathtaking encounters with the local wild life.

Throughout the book, the author is also searching for a clue as to: what is time? This quest takes him through the tortuous meanders of physics, psychology and philosophy, with dubious results.

Fred Witschard

A fascinating and funny novel about Fred's travels in darkest Africa. During 1960 he travelled and lived with villagers exploring for gold. Met many dangerous animals. Drank cold beer and explains mathematics and physics in a very amusing and readable way.
